Meet your teacher....

My husband and I grew up in the South Bay. We have two children, Sophia - age 10 and Vivian - age 6. Both girls attend Soleado, where Sophia is in Mrs. Donahoe's 5th Grade class and Vivian is in Ms. Burson's 1st Grade class. This is my 14th year here at Soleado and I feel super lucky to be a part of this wonderful school! In addition to an Elementary Teaching Credential, I have a Masters Degree in Technology and a Secondary Authorization to teach Math and Science up to 9th grade.

My husband, Scott Ellis, teaches 6th/7th Grade English at Ridgecrest Intermediate School and has a Single Subject Credential in English.

My Classroom Economy

In 5th Grade, we will be using the My Classroom Economy program.  If you want to learn more about the program, please check out the website: www.myclassroomeconomy.org.  It is a great way to teach financial literacy in the younger years.  It is also fun!

AR Personal Reading Book

Dear Parents,

We will be using Accelerated Reader (AR) as a progress monitoring tool in 5th grade this year.  Your child has been asked to pick a book to read that is from the AR list.  Please have them log on to ARbookfind.com in order to find the information required to fill in their reading log.  The book should be brought to class every day and brought home to read every night.  The students will be asked to take an AR quiz on each book they read.  The quiz will be taken here at school.

Soon, our district will have the AR software up and running at Soleado.  At that time, our 5th graders will take a diagnostic quiz to identify their ZPD, book level range, and determine their AR goal for the trimester.  This will help guide them in choosing their book in the future.

I am very excited about this program!  It personally motivates and encourages stronger readers.  It is also the program used by Ridgecrest Intermediate School - the school most of our 5th graders will attend next year.  This makes the transition to intermediate school that much easier!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
Mrs. Ellis
