Welcome to our Happy School in the Sun! 

Soleado is a very special place that I have called home, as a teacher, for 22 years. Last year was my first year serving as your Principal. It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all back to the 2023-2024 school year! With students from countries all over the world, it’s easy to see how diverse and unique Soleado is. 

We have 453 students this year at Soleado, starting with the littlest sunbeams in Transitional Kindergarten. We have 2 Kindergartens, 3 First grades, 3 Second grades, 3 Third grades, 2 Fourth grades, 1 Four/Five combination grade and 2 Fifth grades this year. You will find the teachers and staff here warm and welcoming, opening their doors and their hearts to all of the Soleado community.  

Originally with open classrooms, Soleado opened its doors in 1969 as a unique open-classroom (no walls!) pod experience. This continued all the way until COVID precautions, which put up temporary walls to ensure student and staff safety during the pandemic. Having this open classroom, and BIG ROOM in the middle, lends itself to a cooperative teaching and learning environment. Students learn how to work together and collaborate. Teachers are flexible and accommodating to all types of learning styles and methods. We have all learned how to play well in the sandbox together here! 

I hope you find that this school is as warm and inviting as I have over the years. This year we have a lot of exciting things we are focusing on, including Performing Arts Programs at every grade level, Wellness Wednesdays, and School Spirit Fridays. Our staff is excited to welcome you to school each day and we hope that you agree that Soleado is a ‘special place in the Sun’. We love it here and hope you do too!
